All about the 9-Day Namibian Highlights (Self drive).

This self drive safari through the beautiful Namibian landscapes starts from Windhoek, you will head towards the Namib Desert where you can experience the highest dune in the world, then head over to the beautiful coastal town of Swakopmund. After being refreshed by the breeze of the ocean you will head to Damaraland to take in this unique landscape. And your final destination will be Etosha where you will see the big 4 ,lions, elephants, rhinos & leopards.

Any extra activities

  1. Day 1 Quiver Camp

    Upon arrival, you will be collected by a representative from Don Tours Safaris. He or she will explain to you about your safari before we hand you over your vehicle.

    From here you will start your adventure driving down to the south of Namibia today your destination is Sesriem area. You can make a stop at Solitaire farm where you can buy the famous apple crumbled pie and other refreshments.

    Your accommodation will be Quiver Camp or a similar lodge.

  2. Day 2 Dune 45, Deadvlei, Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon

    An early start as soon as the sun rises, you will enter the  Namib Naakluft National Park. Today you will explore the dunes and sesriem canyon.

    We advise you to hike the dunes early in the morning as the sand and the weather will be cooler.


    From your accommodation to the gate of the park it’s a 10 minutes drive, once the gates are open you will drive in a tarred road for about 45 minutes until you reach Dune 45. Once you are there if you wish to hike to get to the top of that dune it will take up to 30 minutes of hiking.

    After Dune 45 you will drive for 10 minutes then you will reach the 2X4 parking area. Once you are here you can decide whether you want to be shuttled into sossusvlei are or you can drive your 4X4 vehicle yourself. The shuttle will cost you N$170 per person going in and returning.

    After exploring the dunes you will drive back to your lodge and have some lunch, pool, and relax before going to visit Sesriem canyon late afternoon when it’s nice, cool, and good for photos.

  3. Day 3 Swakopmund

    Today after breakfast, make your way up to the Coastal town of Swakopmund where you will spend the next two nights. You will pass the imaginary line (Tropical of Capricorn), Kuiseb Canyon, and Walvis bay before arriving in Swakopmund.

    Tonight you will sleep at @Prost Hotel for 2 nights

  4. Day 4 Swakopmund

    Today it’s a leisure day, you can relax go shopping or activities such as Quad biking, boat cruise, sandboarding and sky diving. Walkthrough old-fashioned streets as you take in the colonial history around you. Visit the museum, enter an ocean wonderland at the National Marine Aquarium, or climb to the top of Woermann Haus for a prime view of the town.

  5. Day 5 Damara Mopane Lodge

    Leave the Coastal Town behind as you head inland and North towards Damaraland. Damaraland is an exceptionally scenic landscape featuring open plains, ancient valleys, and spectacular rock formations. Tonight’s accommodation will be at Damara Mopane lodge for 2 nights.

    In Damaraland if you are lucky you might see desert-adapted Elephants.

  6. Day 6 Twyfelfontein

    This morning you will visit Twyfelfontein

    UNESCO World Heritage Site and unique rock engravings

    Twyfelfontein, which means as much as „doubtful fountain“ or „Fountain of Doubt“ is the name of a valley in the Damara highland about 70 km west of Khorixas. The valley was inhabited by the Damara, who call the valley Uri-Ais (jumping fountain) in their language.

    In 1947 white farmers settled in the valley, but the fountain was unreliable and only had little water. The farms were abandoned by the white settlers due to the Odendaal plan in 1964, where the local population of Namibia was relocated to ”Homelands”.

    Upon returning to the lodge, make your way to the viewing platform where you can enjoy spectacular views and a sundowner drink before heading back to the lodge to enjoy dinner.


  7. Day 7 Etosha Village

    Today you make your way to Etosha Village where you will end off your Namibian Journey with 2 nights here enjoying safari as well as some relaxation. The lodge, only ten kilometers from the Park’s central entrance and a world away from the hustle and bustle, offers top-grade Etosha accommodation with easy access to the Park.

  8. Day 8 Etosha National Park

    Today enjoy a full-day game drive into Etosha National Park on a guided safari. Explore the national park with a guide who is familiar with the waterholes and the animals that visit them. The guide will introduce you to African wildlife from the elevated seat of a game vehicle. And, after Etosha enchantment return to the lodge to dive into the cool waters of the pools. Dine on the veranda under a dome of stars, sit next to a blazing fire, or watch the ruby sun sink gracefully into the landscape.

  9. Day 9 Windhoek

    This morning, after breakfast, make your way back to Windhoek Airport where you will return your hired vehicle and make your way to the check-in counters for your flight back home.

    Note: Dependant on your flight departure time, an extra night in Windhoek might be necessary and can be added to this customizable itinerary.
